This is the first in a series of bargaining updates that we hope will keep you updated on the progress of bargaining this round.
Because the flight attendants were on strike recently, we converted last week’s in-person negotiations to virtual bargaining sessions. We’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate the 10,000 CUPE flight attendants at Air Canada who were successful in attaining their breakthrough achievement for all worked hours being paid hours.
For those of you not familiar with the bargaining process, the Union team met earlier this summer to review your bargaining input for changes to your collective agreement as it relates to economic and working condition improvements.
The proposals are separated into monetary items and nonmonetary proposals.
We start with discussions around the non-cost items, and as bargaining progresses, we deal with financial items. That means things like wages and benefits aren’t addressed until the end stages of bargaining.
We exchanged proposals with the hospital team and started working through our respective proposals to discuss and understand them better. We did agree to a number of editorial changes and have agreed to discuss some of the more substantive proposals at our next session.
In the meantime, we will be holding a series of in-person Round Table Membership Discussions at the Yukon Inn:
- September 9th, 12 pm
- September 9th, 5 pm
- September 9th, 7 pm
- September 10th, 8 am
- September 10th, 12 pm
Proposal to the Employer:
Attached below you will find a copy of the proposals we gave to the employer:
We will also be setting up a special email address for questions you may have about bargaining, and we will let you know as soon as that is done.
We expect that our next dates will be in the late fall and are looking at dates and potential meeting locations.
